2040 Peel St. 6pm – 8pm

And Announces A Unique Broadcasting Initiative For YoungCuts Filmmakers

(Toronto – August 8, 2007)  High Fidelity HDTV is proud to be the title sponsor of the YoungCuts Opening Night Gala.  And the Canadian-based specialty-channel broadcasting company - which broadcasts continuous true High Definition content - will express its commitment to YoungCuts by offering young filmmaking participants a unique “pitch” opportunity and a spot on its programming schedule.

Now in its fifth year, the YoungCuts Film Festival is an extraordinary event showcasing talented filmmakers, aged 25 and under, from around the world. Each year, YoungCuts draws top celebrities and discovers amazing new talent. This year, the festival will present 100 short films at Montreal’s Cinema du Parc from August 17 to 23.

The 2007 YoungCuts Film Festival kicks off with the High Fidelity HDTV Opening Night Gala to benefit the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada (CCAC). The gala takes place Thursday August 16, 2007 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Montreal’s famous Ristorante Cavalli, located at 2040 Peel St (near Sherbrooke West).  Proceeds from this year’s gala will directly benefit the CCAC’s mission of promoting awareness and education, providing support to patients and families, and advocating for a colorectal cancer screening policy and access to effective treatment.

As a special tribute at the Opening Night Gala, the CCAC will screen a short film on colorectal cancer, starring and written by Craig Lauzon (comedian seen regularly on Royal Canadian Air Farce) and David Tomlinson (comedian), directed by YoungCuts filmmaker Ryan Knight and produced by the YoungCuts Film Festival.Other YoungCuts filmmakers will be present along with Hollywood and Canadian celebrities.

During the gala, High Fidelity HDTV and YoungCuts will also announce the launch of a brand new initiative to benefit young filmmakers in Canada.  The High Fidelity YoungCuts Challenge will offer the winning filmmakers to showcase their works on High Fidelity HDTV’s Equator HD channel.  This initiative will be open to all Canadian filmmakers in the YoungCuts database and will ask them to create a pitch for a short film that responds to a theme appropriate to the Equator HD channel. The YoungCuts’ board will select 10 of the best pitches by September 6, 2007 and pass them on to High Fidelity, who will then select 3-to-5 projects to be produced and showcased on Equator during primetime across Canada.

“We are pleased and proud to be part of the YoungCuts Festival,“ says High Fidelity HDTV’s Ken Murphy. “There couldn’t be a better way to showcase the talent of independent young Canadian filmmakers than to give them access to Canadian viewers. Airing these select projects on Equator HD will give these up and coming stars a chance to share their voice.”
